Building The Next Era

Nordic Circular Hotspot secures co-funding from Nordic Innovation, welcomes new Managing Partners and kickstarts phase 2 with a virtual WCEFonline side event.

OSLO, Sept. 15, 2020 — Following the Nordic Circular Hotspot’s launch during the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) in Helsinki in June 2019, the coalition of partners has grown considerably and has secured NOK 1.5 million in development co-funding from Nordic Innovation to roll-out the second phase. This new, Active Development Strategy phase is being facilitated by Oslo-based Natural State and managed by eleven Managing Partners from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and The Netherlands.

“We need to collaborate more closely to redefine growth in the Nordics and highlight what is possible through re-use, reduce, repair, regeneration and, most importantly, systemic change,” says Elin Bergman, one of the Nordic Circular Hotspot’s eleven Managing Partners. The participating partners are domain experts from Circularities, Natural State, Cradlenet, Lifestyle & Design Cluster, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, CIRCULAR Solutions, Festa, Icelandic Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility and WholistiQ Holding.

“There is a great need for having one place that has an overview on everything that is happening regarding the circular economy in the Nordics,” says Marthe Haugland, Senior Innovation Adviser, Nordic Innovation. “Right now, it is very fragmented and hard to find anything. We need to collaborate to move faster towards a circular economy and this is why we support the next phase of the Nordic Circular Hotspot.”

Virtual kick-off event: Building the Next Era

On September 8, 2020, the Nordic Circular Hotspot hosted a virtual WCEFonline Side Event, “Building The Next Era: Where are we and where do we go next together?” This webinar presented “all you need to know on the circular economy in the Nordic region” as well as the Nordic Circular Hotspot’s brie history, next steps and recent NCH Survey and Network Map. In case you missed the event, you can find a recording of all three sessions online at nordiccircularhotspot.org Here you will also find a PDF presentation with brief bios of the speakers, and highlights of the Nordic and Dutch circular state of play.
